• We’re all part of the natural world – a world where efficiency and great design are interchangeable. Yesterday, thinking green was second nature. Tomorrow it will be indecipherable from thinking design.

  • We acknowledge and celebrate the intelligence, values, insights and worldview of the people who will be engaging the environments we are creating. Cultural diversity trumps homogenization on every hand.

  • We are a team of travelers, observers, explorers, collectors, and creators.  The collage of textures and colors that our worlds offer us is the “messy vitality” from which we derive our inspiration.

  • We do not design for design’s sake, or to showcase gadgets and software. Technology is an amazing tool and resource that should empower exploration, not overwhelm it.

  • Design is increasingly being valued for its creative ability to approach and define complex issues.  Design Thinking can transform and affect positive change in every aspect of daily life.

  • Our process is inherently collaborative; we build cooperative working sessions, which elicit every stakeholder’s ideas for thoughtful development.

  • We understand that environments are cultural settings. Each project we take on transforms passive users into empowered co-authors, connecting with both the space and its broader cultural landscape.

  • Our team of innovators brings ideas to life through our Integrative Design process, which combines material research, sustainable design strategies, cultural insights, and construction expertise.

  • The existing conditions of every project “site” have inherent qualities that can be uncovered and celebrated. This level of authenticity is a gift unique to each project and comes at a very reasonable price: free.

  • Specialization in our industry has created less with more, de-emphasizing accountability and the depth of our craft. We are capable leaders, effectively managing teams of creative people to bring concepts to life.

Who We Are

Our name, “Mapos,” is a combination of “map” – meaning to map, strategize, and to help people find their way – and “os” which stands for Open Source, a free sharing process where everyone’s input is valuable and essential.
