For this DesignNYC project, Mapos and AB Architekten paired to create an overall master vision intended to enhance streetscapes in seven neighborhoods along the Fulton Street corridor in Brooklyn.

The team first created and produced a series of public workshops and presentations, where members of the community explored the design and usage of public spaces; relationships between pedestrians, cars and bikes; opportunities for vacant lots and underutilized spaces; environmental initiatives; accessibility; achieving a balance of retail offerings; sense of place; and other community needs and concerns.

Based on input at the community meetings, the team proposed a variety of site-specific projects, ranging from utilizing existing fences to exhibit public art to more extensive initiatives, such as connective landscaping, playgrounds, greenmarkets, outdoor performance space, enhancements to parking lots, and increased lighting to make the area feel safer.

The resulting Vision Plan is a living document that will help guide the community, city agencies, the FAB Alliance, and its partners to establish priorities and advocate for enhancements to the Fulton Street area.
